The San Antonio International Airport serves San Antonio and its neighboring places. San Antonio International Airport

San Antonio International Airport (SAT) is a public international airport with three runways. SAT is owned by the City of San Antonio and is operated by San Antonio Aviation Department. SAT is a hub for Xtra Airways Non Air Carrier – Charter Operations. The major domestic routes it serve are Dallas/Fort Worth, TX; Atlanta, GA; Dallas (Love Field), TX; Houston (Intercontinental), TX; Phoenix, AZ; Denver, CO; Las Vegas, NV; Los Angeles, CA; and Chicago, IL (O'Hare).

Stinson Municipal Airport

Stinson Municipal Airport (SSF) is a public airport owned by the City of San Antonio. SSF has 3 runways and serves as a as the reliever for SAT. It is also home to police and state aviation units, two flight schools, helicopter flight school and tour company and the Texas Air Museum.

Getting to and from the Airport

Major car-rental agencies all have offices at the airport. A taxicab ride cost: Approximately $25.

Travel to San Antonio by Train

Amtrak, the national passenger rail serves San Antonio and its metropolitan areas. The two trains it operates are
Texas Eagle and Sunset Limited.

Texas Eagle:
It runs daily between San Antonio and Chicago's Union Station.
Sunset Limited: It runs three times a week in each direction through San Antonio between Los Angeles and Orlando, Florida.

Union Pacific Railroad
It provides freight service from San Antonio to Corpus Christi.

LSTAR:
A proposed passenger rail line that will link San Antonio to Austin.

Road Travel in San Antonio

Some of the major freeways and highways that serve the city, include-

  • Interstate 10: In the east, it runs from Anthony, at the border with New Mexico, to the Louisiana border in Orange, Texas via through El Paso, San Antonio and Houston.

  • Interstate 35: It is known as Pan Am Expressway. Northerly, it runs toward Austin and southerly toward Laredo, Oklahoma City, Dallas–Fort Worth, Kansas Minneapolis and City.

  • Interstate 37: It is called Lucian Adams Freeway Its Southeast routes follow: San Antonio - junction with US Highway 281 south - into Corpus Christi - junction with Interstate 69E/US Highway 77 south - southern terminus at Corpus Christi Bay.

  • Interstate 410: It is called Connally Loop and serves as the inner beltway around the city.

From the San Antonio Greuhoud Bus Station, you will be connected to all major cities in the state.

Bicycle paths

San Antonio makes great effort to make the city a bicycle freindly place and more emphasis were given after the League of American Bicyclists designated its as a Bronze-Level Bicycle Friendly Community. San Antonio reserves over hundred of miles routes, lanes, or off-road paths for bikers. Off-road trails travel along the San Antonio River, linear green ways, or city parks.

Local Travel in San Antonio

VIA Metropolitan Transit, the city's metropolitan transit authority, provides two Downtown streetcar routes and 89 regular bus routes. It also offers express services and runs one of the longest local transit routes in America (Routes 550 and 551 - loops around the city)

Downtown trolleybus: It will cost you $1.10 one way. This is an extremely travel friendly means to tour around downtown and service provided by VIA Metropolitan Transit. You can buy a day pass for $4 at VIA Downtown Information Center.

VIA Primo: Bus Rapid Transit line operated by VIA. It links Downtown San Antonio to the South Texas Medical Center, and the independent enclave city of Leon Valley.

Hybrid buses: Operated by VIA, there are over 30 diesel-electric hybrid technology buses that run on VIA's express route serving the daily commuters.
